In 2024 the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention found his detention arbitrary and in breach of international law, and called for his release. In August 2026 Amnesty International said Pakistani authorities had systematically denied him the right to a fair trial, and had kept him in solitary confinement with limited access to doctors, family and lawyers.
